In an instant, your life could change forever . . .
Imagine…two o’clock in the morning, you wake to a fire alarm blaring and realize it’s not a dream, your house is on fire. You race room to room to get everyone out. Thankfully, everyone is okay. You are scared, cold, and in shock. Fire engine sirens fill the night as they race towards your house. Police and paramedics arrive on the scene. As uncertainties begin to overwhelm you, a friendly hand reaches out to wrap a warm blanket around you…it’s the hand of a Winona County Red Cross volunteer. How did that volunteer know that he/she was needed? The Law Enforcement Center paged them when the call came in that there was a residential fire. Every night there are 7-9 volunteers on call throughout Winona County ready to respond at a moments notice.
Every year around 20 homes in our area are ravaged by fire. In the shock and confusion that follows, the Red Cross is there, helping to rebuild lives. The Red Cross provides disaster relief, training, and education to residents throughout Winona county on a daily basis. All disaster service assistance and training are free of charge. Whether fire, flood, tornado, train derailment, ice storm, or other...we are trained to be at our best when times are at their worst.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on the generosity of local businesses and individuals, as well as support from the United Way, to provide vital assistance to local disaster victims.
